I found a few handy shortcuts to make the home button more useful and I thought I'd share them.
Settings>Accessibility>Double Tap Home to Launch - You can assign a common app to launch by double tapping the home button. I assign text messaging.
Instead of dragging home button up to launch google now (how many people use that?), this will allow you to drag the home button up and shut the screen off. More handy and saves the power button some wear and tear.
