Root A few questions about flashing to cm9?

Okay, bear with me, please.

I've been reading about rooting/flashing for about a month now and I finally took the plunge and rooted last night.
No problems, everything went smoothly, but then I got too nervous and backed out of flashing to cm9.
I wasn't in the middle of anything, so nothing is wrong with my phone, but I'm still a bit apprehensive.

So... what are the odds of me bricking my phone while flashing..?
The plan is obviously to follow the directions, but I know mistakes are possible.
(and I don't have the money for a new phone.. but I'd still really like to flash to cm9, oh botha.)

And.. if I did flash, would there be any reason to have to reactivate my phone? (On VM)
I wouldn't think there would be, but I've never done this before so I'd just like to know.

If all else fails and I'm stuck or something, can somebody walk me through it?

Sorry you guys, I guess I need a little reassuring that I can actually get through this alive.

I haven't heard of any hard bricks, As long as you follow the tutorial there shouldn't be any issues. The people on this forum are very helpful and will help you if you need any. The biggest thing is to always verify your downloads with a md5 checker before you flash

You sound a lot like myself, back when this phone was new and the forums for this device were only two-three months old, when CWM and Aeneas first came out.

If you try to follow the directions for installation provided by the original post for the ROM, by the ROM dev, all should be well. We've tried to take most/all of the work out of installation for users, and the chances of bricking your phone are very, very low especially in the case of an experienced dev. I can't speak for CyanogenMod, but for all Gingerbread (Android v2.3.7) ROMs I've never had to re-activate with Virgin Mobile.

Should something go wrong, we have guides, both in the forms of people and posts, to help you get through it. For example, we have the CWM FAQ-Guide and the Uber Factory Reset.

All in all, really the most difficulty is in one's own mind. Flashing sounds really complex and difficult, but once you've done it you'll see its easier done in practice than it reads on your screen. It's a careful process, but all in all its pretty simple. Have fun! :)

thanks you guys!!
i think i'm gonna go ahead and try it today!
i'll definitely be back if i'm stuck or have questions or anything!

thanks so much!
