a gold card query ??

hi guys after reading numerous posts on here i delved in and unbranded my orange desire....i used a 4gig card for the gold card and all went well. now i usually use a 16gb card but obviously now i need to swap cards to do any update.....is it possible to copy my data off my 16gb to pc / format it / create new gold card '/ copy data back to 16gb card from pc and then never worry about updating/swapping cards again or is this not possible......cheers for any helped recieved....andy
