Android Question

I've just bought a new Android phone from China, a Cubot GT99. I have swapped my old Virgin SIM into it and synced the data from my old Nokia 5530. If I attempt to make a phone call I get a warning that 'The SIM card you are about to use is now roaming. No local SIM is available now. Would you like to continue?'
The question is, would I?
By using the SIM, which I've had for a number of years, am I going to lay myself open to roaming charges? Is it because the phone expects a Chinese SIM and how can I use the SIM?
Thanks for any info
