When I got my San Francisco I never found the battery life that great. At best I was getting 16 hours and wasn't even with heavy use. If I left it in standby I would be lucky to ever hit 24 hours.
One thing that puzzled me was how everyone had such different experiences with battery life. Some people stuggled to get much more than 8 hours, others said they could go 2 to 3 days.
I recently got a new phone so put my San Francisco up for sale last week. While waiting for it to sell I thought I would do a little test. I did a factory reset on the phone, fully charged it and then left it to see how long the battery would last.
During the last week it's been mostly in standby but has been switched on several times each day, and had a little use (probably 2 to 3 hours actual use). WIFI was on for a couple of days (forgot to turn it off after downloading the battery app). The important thing was that I didn't want to install any additional apps. The only one I downloaded was a battery monitor app.
Today the phone has been 7 days 5 hours since last charged, and battery is on 10%. I have now sold it so had to pack it away, but I reckon it would easly have gone to 8 days.
The point of this is that when I was actually using it as my main phone, I downloaded apps galore (I think most of us do) and under the same usage would not have got more than 18 hours or so from it.
So, it seems that the biggest battery drain is from installed apps. I know that might seem obvious but I don't think it ever struck me how much of an effect these apps were having. When I was using the phone I had juice defender running, auto sync turned off. wifi and gps only turned on when needed, so was trying to limit battery use as much as possible (oh, and it's running Jellyfish custom 2.2 Rom)
I gues what i'm saying is for those that really struggle with battery life, maybe look through all those apps that you just don't need and remove them. You never know, might make a bigger difference than you think.
At least I now know how some people manage to get 2 to 3 days from their phone.....
