Root A little help

So Im trying to root my phone and Ive followed the instructions

How to Root Samsung Epic 4G! | Samsung Epic Hacks! <------There exactly as said.

However when I get to the run.bat part the actual command prompt it doesent work. So i just clicked on run in the extracted folder and I got an Error message saying device not recognized or found or something.

Can anybody help as to what I did wrong?

Just unhook and then rehook your device, and make sure that your pc has it installed prior to you trying to install it again
