Root A little Root Help Plz - Cant access recovery mode

Newbie
Hey

1st Post, got my htc desire this morning and after researching for a long time already knew i wanted to root my device...

I followed the instructions on this site.

[HOWTO] Root Your Desire In 1 Click With UnrEVOked! *UPDATED 20/7* - xda-developers

I used unrevoked3, and rooted the device.... no trouble.

Ive backed up the device with titanium backup.

Placed cyanogen onto the 4gb sd card which came with the phone....

Power off the device. Rebooted whilst holding the volume down button. Got the options up. Navigated to recovery and selected it with the power button. The screen goes blank. The o2 screen comes up saying welcome.....and thats it, it freezes.

I have to pull the battery out of the back in order to reset the device and then it starts up perfectly normal. Tried accessing recovery mode using the clockworkmod but i get the same result.

All of the points on the link above were followed. Im pretty much right at the bottom! still researching the net for the answer but im now in need of additional help

Help :(

Welcome to the Forum.

Did you check your hboot before you started turn on phone while pressing the back button.
If your hboot was/is 0.83 then you need the nightly build of cyanogen.

[NIGHTLY] Cyanogenmod 6 (Froyo) for vendor Bravo (HTC DESIRE) - xda-developers

I am not sure why it isn't booting but that is not how you flash it. You need to use Unrevoked with the ROM and Radio already on the SD card that should be in from the start.

The method is run Unrevoked with USB attached, the phone will boot up itself and switch over to the green clockwork mod. Then you do a Nandroid backup, then while still in clockwork flash the Radio and the Rom. Then reboot.

Your 100% right :) , hboot is 0.83.

Will quickly go get the nightly build (arent these considerably more unreliable?)

Would this affect why i cant access recovery mode at all?

Welcome to the forum! :D

As first posts go, yours is quite adventurous. :) I do hope you get your boot problems sorted out!

just tried using unrevoked again and it went through the process except at the end when it says "done" it never actually reboots. The screen just goes off and thats it...

had to take the battery out again and put it back in...

They are the only builds that support the slcd screens which by all accounts is what the hboot 0.83 & hboot 0.92 support, basically leaves you with no choice but those builds at present
