Help A month in Dhell!

Thanks, I'm a least going to give it a try. Maybe learn something new in the process.

All my machines are legacy. Sounds like another attempt at forcing machine to be obsolete.

It makes sense that I would find a computer with a locked "bootloader". That is my MO.
In the BIOS of that D620, is there a 'Security' section? In it is there a 'Computrace' entry? I recall that being a part of a lot of Dell laptops back then. It was the early days of LoJack, for asset management of laptops. It's enabled in the BIOS but a Computrace module had to be installed in the OS for it to actually do anything, like be able to send a message to a central server. (The BIOS couldn't do online communication). If it is enabled, I don't recall any way for consumers to disable it. And it's just a BIOS thing, why getting a new operating system to load or run properly is most likely tied to some mobo or drive issue.

Yeah, I still don't know if that's an issue though with this particular D620. An incorrect BIOS time will create issues with things like CAs but that's a still a matter of hardware clock not matching up with the software clock. When running Windows the hardware clock and the OS are using the same time zone. With Linux, some distros are the same, but many instead rely on UTC (so the time in whichever desktop environment will show local time but the hardware clock is UTC).
