Help A problem with wallpapers

DV7

Lurker
Greetings!
I bought the SGS3 some days ago and it is my first Android device, so I dont really know how some things work. Ive been using the iPhone before...

Ok, so lets go to the issue I have.

When I want to set a wallpaper, I am forced to crop the picture and nothing turns out as I want it to. Ive been googling and asking people and all they say is download this app or that app, should work properly. I have tried Quickpic, Wallpaper Wizardrii, Wallpaper setter and some other apps, but they didnt work. The crop-square appears but I cant make it cover the whole picture...

The wallpaper:

Sorry, image to large to display here.

But this is how my screen looks like:

Its not only this wallpaper, I have the same problem with every picture I try.

I am using Nova Launcher if it matters... Please help me, this is driving me crazy. Do I need to resize the pictures? In that case, to what resolution? Any suggestions on apps that I could try?
All I want is that the whole wallpaper fits on one screen...

Thanks in advance.

There are a couple of issues here. I don't know the exact settings with Nova Launcher, but they should be fairly easy to find.

First, do you want the image to be fixed or scroll when changing home screens? If scrolling, just make sure you have an odd number of screens and your default home screen is the center. If fixed, when setting this image as your wallpaper you should see something like this:

Just make sure your image is centered in the box and it should center on your homescreen.

I have deleted all screen except one, which is the one I use.
What I want with the image is to be like the iPhone, if you know what I mean? I guess that it means fixed.

What I see when I try to set the picture as background the "original way" (via gallery, no apps):

I cant make the square bigger...

Hmm ok, this picture looks pretty nice as it is on my screen now. But when I try another one (I wont be keeping the same picture forever hehe) it does not look nearly as good...

You see, you only see a part of the face, but on the picture, you see the hair, background etc. Is there any way to get all of that onto the screen?

Or if I take a picture of my car, it looks the same. I can only see a part of the car:

The screen:

And there is no way in he** that I can fit the whole car on my homescreen...

The native resolution of the S3's screen is 720 pixels wide x 1280 high. You will need to make the image those proportions to fit the whole image. Let's use your car as an example.

For you to fit the whole horizontally oriented image you will either need to extend the height like this:

Or stretch the image like:

car2.jpg

Ok, I see. Actually, when I tried some apps, they made the backgrounds look like your 1st picture of the car. But that way, the wallpaper does not cover the whole screen...

Isnt there any way to make it like on the iPhone? You press the set as wallpaper button and the phone automatically made the image fit to your screen no matter how big the picture was?

This is just complicated and confusing...

Then 2nd picture looks kind of funny haha :D

edit: Ok, ill resize some of my pictures and try again.
