Help A question about contacts numbers format

After I purchased the Galaxy Ace the dashes/hyphens to the contact number was added automatically (ex: xx-xxx-xxx-) after I synced my contacts from my computer all the dashes disappeared. Also when I try to enter new number, the dashes/hyphens don't appear nor can't be added manually -which would be such a pain. How can I restore it? I can't find an option for that. Thanks for advance
