A question about the photo quality

Greetings all. This is my first post so I apologize if this has been asked/beaten to death already.

The wife and I both have our beloved Droid X's but they are on their last electronic legs. My screen flickers and goes out any time the phone gets colder than about 65 degrees....bleh...

So...going to get something new. I can snag a new Note 2 for 199.99 so it seems like a good deal.

The wife mentioned that she wants something with better photo quality than our X's and from what I've read on the interweb the Motorola cameras are inferior to the Samsung ones. I was thinking of getting her a Razr HD.

So...if Samsung does have better cameras...is there a difference between the Note 2 and the Galaxy S3? I like the larger Note 2 but she has tiny ninja-like hands and it might not be the best fit for here.

If the two Samsungs have the same camera hardware they should produce the same basic quality photos..but not sure they have the same hardware.

Any observations are appreciated.

There are many women; some amongst these forums with miniature hands who use the Note 2 with no problem.
The larger screen is phenomenal and I find pics to be outstanding.
