Hi all! Im always on the lookout for things like this. I am looking for articles on the future of cell phone towers and how (i personally believe) they will be replaced with giant wifi towers.. some say it wont work because then it would be too easy to "unlock" the phones and switch networks, but not if we get rid of the chipset in the phones that run on radio, and replace it with a wifi connecter that connects only to that tower (even though id LOVE if theyd just let us switch networks! Lol the big time companies probably wont have any of that =p)

I had seen an article similar to this on hackaday.com. they made an example tower that reached up to two miles. Havent heard anything since... cant find any relative reading... anyone got some links i could look at?

I took a look and apparently, the tallest tower we have is the Tokyo Sky Tree coming in at 1,998 feet. Quite a ways to go to hit the two mile mark. Building a two mile high tower would be an engineering OMG.

Then I found the Burj Khalifa at more than 2700 feet, so who knows. Perhaps a two mile tower is one day possible. Perhaps super strong materials anchored to the earth and suspended by a satellite in space.

I am not an engineer, but it seems building a two mile-high tower would be one of those things we must wait for until we develop materials and technologies to deal with the stress caused by winds. Not to mention things I likely have not considered.

Just a guess but I think the op means that the wifi signal had a range of two miles...... Please correct me if wrong though :-)
