A sad, sad day....

First off, thank you for the job you do.

Secondly, sorry about your issue but I see its been resolved well. as far as cases, consider also a screen protector film

Thank you, and thanks for the tip regarding the screen protector. I have been reading the thread on here today trying to get an idea which one to order.

I'm at work currently but my wife just called me a little while ago. Well it seems my phone replacement arrived and its appears to be brand new. She said it looks factory sealed and its in the black marketing box with the red eye on the front.

My Commuter Case came with a screen protector. Don'y know what brand it is but it works pretty well.

My condolences... back in my 911 days (decades), it was Moto StarTacs or LG bar phones...and they took a beating (dropped them on NYC streets and sidewalks many a time), but I usually had a secure belt clip or zipped/buttoned my phone into a pocket. I would also consider looking at companies that supply the heavy industries, such as Dickies, for holsters and such that will be very secure on your work belt.

On the screen protector, it may not totally prevent breaks and cracks, but remember from your training, the difference in the psi needed to crack a bare skull compared to one with scalp on? Huge diffence in dissipation of forces just with that thin layer... I would suppose really good screen protectors could have similar benefits...

Thanks very much for your valued input folks.

I've ben tracking my otterbox commuter and it seems its finally local, woo hoo! I can finally activate my new razr replacement. Its been teasing me just sitting there on the table at home. I love my droid x but after 20 hours with the razr, it is greatly missed. After the episode a few days ago I outright refuse to use it without some rugged protection.

My next conquest is the screen protector. Many of you guys have been thoughtful with your suggestions and links, much obliged.

Thanks again to everyone for your advice and recommendations.

My brother dropped his phone not once but twice on a wood and tiled floor last week (about waist level) and not a single scratch. He dropped it face down the first time and then straight on its back the second time. Lucky bastard...but sorry to hear about your experience and glad things worked out.

Get the Steinheil Ultra Fine screen protectors--you'll be glad you did. They make a world of difference, especially outdoors. Punch the window out of a Defender case, install one of those, and you're golden :)

Thanks man,
I purchased the commuter case though. Does that have a built in protector window as well?

No, it comes with a screen protector, though. The commuter is a good case, and you can still use the Steinheil--it's vastly superior to the screen protectors that come with the commuters.

Thank you, I'm going to take your advice and order the steinheil. I'll put one on my wife's razr also. I appreciate you advice very much.

Be sure to get the "Ultra Fine", as they come in different varieties. You want the ones with the black package with big orange "U". I can't get over how fantastic this screen protector is. If you've ever used or seen the "Power Support" anti-glare sold at Apple stores, I always considered those the "gold standard". These are even better!
