Root A whole bunch of questions re:radios and forever

Ok, so I have been reading, and still am sort of confused exactly what will be going on. Thus, I have some questions:

I have the stock radio right now. Say I want to upgrade. there is a 2.05 and a 2.15 version, or something like that. I have read that the 2.05 version will brick a phone if put over itself, but the 2.15 version is more friendly. Is that true? If I want to upgrade, do I go straight to .15 or do I have to go through .05? If I go to .15, can I reflash back to 1.xx easily? Can you even flash radios like that? <--that is my total lack of real computer programming knowledge showing

Would unrEVOked forever make any of this easier? I understand I do not have to go into recovery, but other than that?

yes you have it down. only thing is you have to have unrevoked forever in order to do this. otherwise you are stuck with 2.05 and a much more difficult process to revert to stock.
