about GB 2.3.6 update

hey guys!
well i bought ace last week and i'm pretty happy with the performance. but i have a ques about the software update. is the GB 2.3.6 update is available OTA or i have to use kies? i'm on 2.3.4 right now.

I thought samsung GB was still on 2.3.3 unless its a network update
just tried mine it says " you have the latest software 2.3.3 "
My phone is sim free with a 02 sim used
 
My phone is also 2.3.4 out of the box. I connected the phone via usb cable to my computer yesterday & there was no update for my phone even though there were two updates for KIES in the last few weeks. :) And an update to 2.3.6 has been announced for India.

Kies or OTA for official. Im on 2.3.6 UK official 3 version.
If you just want to update yourself use ODIN and flash which ever version you prefer.

well it was expected to roll out in the mid february. but would like to wait rather than risking my phn to rooting or odin etc

well mate i was on a htc wildfire before and you know how hard it is to root it. so never tried rooting and those "beware" signs make me think twice before thinking so :-P:-P:-P
 
Just got a new Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830i) from Tesco UK on contract yesterday, has 2.3.6.
If you need more info, just ask

O2 wont be rolling it out I reckon.

all the focus from them will now be on the latest models and ICS.

The update situation has left a sour taste in my mouth. I brought a phone which already had support abandoned by my vendor.

I have mentioned this before but got no answer !!!!!!!

My phone was Sim free but I use a 02 sim card
So who does the Updates ???

Samsung vie kies ?

Brian, if you're on O2 on 2.3.3, do you have O2 priority moments installed? When I updated from 2.2 to 2.3 that app was installed with the update.. I guess if you also had it forced on you then that would suggest that it can detect your network and so you'll be waiting on O2 for any updates...

Even if you don't have it, from what's been said on here I'm pretty sure any update will be based on network, even if your phone was sim free when you bought it. So if you bought a different network sim and tried to update it, it wouldn't work as kies would detect that you have O2 firmware installed on the phone. At least I think so anyway.

Thanks for reply I supected it detected it via your sim card as I had to put a new sim in when changed tariffs and now have a 02 sim app !!!

I tried to it with a 3 sim but it wanted to install 3 settings to did not do it
