aCar - Track your vehicles

Hey Armond! I tried emailing you a couple of times to no avail.

I have an HTC Evo 3D and a registered version of aCar.

I am unable to import files from Fuelly.com (fuelups.csv) to the aCar. I select 'Fuelly.com' under the Import/Export Center and select the proper date format in the CSV file and I get an error:

----------

Error

Could not import the data due to an error!

One possible reason might be that the file you're trying to imported is corrupted.

Contact us if the problem insists.

I have tried to restart the phone, uninstall/reinstall of aCar, mount/unmount the SD card, deleted and re-downloaded the file from Fuelly and I still receive the error. Please help.

Actually you should have used "Brand" field on New Fill-Up screen instead of the Grade.

Adding Fuel Efficiency chart based on "Brand" is already in my todo list and I will consider it in a future version.

Using "Fuel Brand" means I have another field to complete for each Fill Up Record. Much easier to just have separate Fuel Specs for each brand. I really only use 3 brands (Shell, Caltex and All Others) so it is not that many extra fuel specs to create.

All I am asking is that the LABEL that appears on the Chart shows the Fuel Spec "Grade" field, not the Octane Field.

I can't see myself every using a chart based solely on "Fuel Brand" (eg "Shell") as I won't want to the mix the stats for Shell Premium95 with Shell Premium98.

Also, why is it not possible to insert a Fill Up Record for a prior date ?

It is bound to happen along the way that I miss entering one and then discover it later.

Surely you just need to recalculate the subsequent Fill Up Records once the new record has been inserted in its correct position in the list.

I add older fuel up records all the time (receipts end up in hubby's wallet), you just have to be careful of the odometer readings and the date - as long as you're precise it works just fine.

I am trying to customize which fields are required in the fill-up form. I thought I remembered doing this when I first got aCar for my first Android phone, but I cannot seem to find a way to do it now (HTC Evo 3D with Sense v3). Specifically, I'd like to make the Total Cost field required. This isn't a big deal, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

New user here. I am trying to import my data from TealAuto (WebOS). However, I keep getting the following error:

"The file you are trying to import does not have the expected data fields/columns or the data records are not in expected format!"

Has anyone experienced this problem? I exported the file from TealAuto and converted into .csv using Excel. Just in case this helps, here are the columns exported from TealAuto in the order they are on the file:

- Vehicle
- Date
- Type
- Beg Odom
- End Odom
- Odom Units
- Distance
- Distance1
- Distance2
- Distance3
- Dist Units
- Cost
- Cost/Dist
- Fuel Price
- Currency
- Efficiency
- Eff Units
- Quantity
- Quant Units
- Fluid Level
- Account1
- Account2
- Account3
- Fuel Grade
- Location
- Pay Type
- Serv/Exp
- Note

Thanks for the assistance.

I just cant get to work import from Personal vehicle Manager (winmo), probably because the data is in spanish? commas instead of dot?
I could send the entire file, but here is what it looks like:

Lancer '02
Date,"Description","Vendor/Location","Amount","Odometer"
25/05/07,"38,31 ltr @ $ 30,80","","$ 1.179,95","38257"
01/06/07,"33,77 ltr @ $ 30,80","","$ 1.040,12","38647"

I have donated and sended Armond a mail to the support mail in the webpage.
Please Armond, love the app, but I need to import the data!

Thanks.

One of the enhancements I would like to see is the ability to sync autos across phones. In other words, the program works great as long as I always drive my car and fill it up. However if my wife takes out my car and fills it up, she must remember to bring a receipt home with her. It would be nice if she could enter the information about my car in her phone and have it update my phone with the new data.

This is what I call "Online Data Synchronization". This is already in long term plan and I will implement it. Unfortunately I don't have any estimation on when it will be, because it's not such a trivial task. Although from users' point of view, data synchronization is something simple and straight-forward, but the implementation is a whole project of its own!

This is one App that I really am glad that I was able to make a donation to show my appreciation for it and the developers dedication to it.

I'm glad to see that aCar has come handy to you. Thanks a lot for your support!

Hi Armond.
I started using aCar around the first of the year and it has really simplified record keeping. I back it up by e-mailing the csv to my gmail account after every trip. So far so good. I love it and I donated for the app.

A couple of months ago, all of a sudden, all of my mileage ratings have gone way up (doubled?). For instance my Camry gets around 29 mpg, but now it shows something like 58 mph on all the fill up records, and it did the same for both of our cars.

For instance, my very first fill-up for my Camry on January 5, 2011. If I look at the fill-up on my CSV back-up, which was created on 1/27/2011, I added 6.649 gallons and it showed 22.559 MPG.
However, if I look at that same entry in aCar on my Droid X right now, it says 6.65 gal, but 53.2 MPG!

Also, some of my data files have seemed to be corrupted. For instance, I recently from a trip and i inputted the start mileage as 209,357. When I looked at it later today it somehow changed to 338.654.8. Any ideas?
I also noticed that the fuel and currency units had mysteriously changed.
They went from gallons to liters.

So, when did this start? My April 1 backup seems to be fine. The next backup, created on April 29 had the corrupted information, so that narrows the time frame.

I have also noticed that some old fuel purchases are out of whack, showing that I paid $14/gal for gas when $3.90 was more like it.

So, how can I fix this? If you like, I can send you the CSV files.
Thanks Armond.
Sam

I've also received this as an email from you. Here I copy my response in the case you've not received my reply:

Sorry for the inconvenience. While I'm not 100% sure what has gone to your data my blind guess is that you've tried to play with changing the units in some period and it has caused this problem. Maybe the best way is to restore the last good backup and manually enter the rest of the records, or you can append your records to the last good CSV file you have and import them altogether.

After all, you should pay more attention when trying to change the units (both when converting your data and when changing the unit only). Here is a simple scenario to corrupt your data:
1. I have "100km"
2. I change the unit to "mi" but tell aCar not to convert my data (because I'm just playing with it and will revert it back to "km" soon). Now I have "100mi".
3. After some playing, I change the unit to "km" again but forget that I've NOT converted the data last time. I tell aCar to convert my data this time! So "100mi" is converted to "160km"!

But my original data was "100km" not "160km". You see that I can corrupt my data this easily if I don't pay enough attention!

Without having your CSV file, it's impossible to find out what the problem is. Please email me the file you're trying to import.

Of course it's possible to enter any historical data you have. If you're getting any error message that the record you're trying to enter is not in sych with the sibling records, please read the FAQ:
"Why doesn't aCar allow me to enter my fill-up/service/expense record and warns that it's not in sync with sibling records?"

You can go to app Settings, then select "Optional Fields" (on "Misc." section at the bottom of the screen) to hide/show the fields you want. But there is no such feature to mark a field as "required".

I've also received this as an email from you and have already answered it. But I've not received any answer from you yet. Here is a copy of my answer:

The problem is that your file format is somehow different from the one aCar support. Maybe it's the difference between the old and new versions... Would you please clarify what version of the app you use? If it's not the latest one, is it possible to upgrade Vehicle Manage to the latest version and then try to export your records?

My apologies if this has already been mentioned, but it would be great if aCar didn't come unregistered every time I flash a new CM7 nightly (which happens about once a week). Every single time (even if I've flashed the new nightly over the old without wiping data), when I look up and enter my (rather long) aCar registration number, it tells me I have a new phone and can't register it until I unregister the old one. So I have to go through the procedure to reset the registration, go to the link in the resulting email, then return to aCar and input the very long registration number again. None of my other apps require such a labor-intensive procedure - in fact, they all make the transition seamlessly when I flash a new nightly over an old one. It would be great if there were a way to avoid this tedious weekly job, which is the only downside I've found to this otherwise excellent app.

This used to happen to me after flashing, but somehow TiBu seemed to be changed and it was returned to registered upon restoring....and I never restore system settings.

I hadn't been restoring it with Titanium, since flashing over an old nightly leaves apps and data intact. Tried it anyway yesterday, but no joy. : ( Oh well, it's an annoyance but not a dealbreaker.

I recently flashed synergy to my TB. TiBu backed up my aCar app, however when I went to use it the other day, it would not load my backed up file. I purchased the pro and entered the key and it still would not load my file, though it says it has.
