Help accelerometer seems to stop working in internet browser.

Anyone else having this issue?

Once in awhile during internet browser use, the screen seems to refuse to switch between landscape and portrait mode. It doesnt matter which way I tun, it just stays in the position I opened the browser up in. Im using the default browser that came on the phone..

The only way I can recitfy the issue is by resetting the phone, or for some odd reason, going into the dialpad section and switching between landscape/portrait in that, then going into the broswer and it works again.

There's a known issue with that ever since the 4.1.2 update. You already found the interim solution.
I am guessing you noticed it with the browser but once it gets stuck some other apps will have it too.

Thankyou very much! As long as its a software issue I can deal with it for now, I was getting nervoudls that something was wrong with the hardware.

As a matter of interest, have you tried testing the accelerometer when this issue occurs?

You can check it by 'dialing' *#0*# from the dial pad, touch 'Sensor', and then touch 'Image Test' in the 'Accelerometer Sensor' section. It should show a photo of a dog that rotates with the phone.

I've been seeing this too. Usually I just reboot, but last night when rotation was stuck, I didn't bother. Just put the phone down and went to bed. In the morning it was rotating like normal. Seems if the phone just sits for a while the bug can cure itself, temporarily at least.

I don't mean to thread jack, but I can't start threads yet and Im overseas trying to get this resoluted asap.

Due to recent unfortunate events, my phone managed to throw it itself against the wall. The screen was completely busted and had to get the screen replaced. Fortunately after getting the screen fixed, everything still manages to work, except the accelerometer. I tried every application and even trying to calibrate and the phone does not respond. Thus far, I have restarted the phone several times and tried to calibrate it and nothing......

My question is
1) Is there a replacement part for this?
2) What are some remedies to try to fix this issue before I take it apart again?
3) Does anyone have a schematic layout of where this part is installed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated fellas!

Old thread, but a solution to sensor problems, especially after flashing custom firmware to the GSN2 is this:
Turn off auto rotate, power off, boot into Odin/download mode, once there - pull battery and reboot. Turn auto rotate back on, should work fine. Otherwise may be a hardware issue...
Hope this helps somebody.

It is not a sensor problem, at least for most people. It is a bug in 4.1.2 update for some of the carriers including AT&T. The best solution I have seen so far is to turn on Auto Brightness. The auto rotate freeze bug rarely happens when Auto Brightness is on.

mine was doing it regular, i switched on auto rotate and it hasnt done it since. maybe a month now without a reboot :D:D:D

I know this is an old thread but I haven't been able to find a fix for this problem. Screen rotation stopped working after upgrading to stock Android 4.3 on my Note 2. Screen rotation would work just a few hours after some resets (not all of them) then stopped working progressively.
I tried to flash a different official samsung firmware but no luck. I have now installed CyanogenMod 11 and screen rotation hasn't worked yet.
has anyone found a solution yet?

Dumb question, I'm sure, but have you turned the screen rotation on in the Settings?

Yes, I have. I have installed OmniRom. It seems better to me. Screen rotation worked at first right after flashing the new ROM and resetting to default settings. Then when I turned the screen off with the power button then turned it on after a few mins it wouldn't just any longer work... Switching screen rotation off and on helped at first but then it stopped working again and switching it off and on wouldn't work anymore.
