Accessing Computer Files via Galaxy S2

Jamie O

Lurker
I'm new here so apologies if this topic has already been raised. (If so, can someone please provide a link to the thread).

I am looking to see if it is possible to access files on my home computer using my Galaxy S2 when I am out and about?

If so, can someone please provide information on how this is possible, and how I can go about doing this.

Many Thanks in advance!! :D

SugarSync allows you to sync folders to an online cloud service, allowing you to access those folders. You need sugarsync on both phone and PC.

Cloud(let) services like SugarSync and DropBox, as chanchan suggests, work well, Jamie but they only give you a few gigabytes of space (free; you can of course pay for more) and require well thought through preparation: you will have to decide in advance which files you might want to access from your phone and stick copies of those files in SugarSync's or DropBox's shared folder on your PC.
Cloud(let)s like these are really a kind of virtual USB stick that you cannot lose, forget, or get stolen.

If you use RDP software (Remote Desktop Protocol) however, you have the full power and ALL the storage of your PC (and ALL the files and applications on it) at your disposal wherever you are. How? Get free Teamviewer (at Teamviewer.com) and install on your PC and your phone. Start up both, exchange the randomly generated ID and password (= super secure) and then you can run your PC from your phone's screen, as if you were sitting in front of it.

Secure your PC with a password-protected screen saver because you must obviously it leave it to run unattended when you go out.
