Help Accessing external drives with only the phone?

Is there any way to access an external drive throught the Micro USB port?

I need to view pictures on an SD card for a trail cam I'm watching wild life 1 mile into the woods. Rather than swapping SD cards then trecking back before I can view, I'l like to be able to view them on the spot and send out to others in real time.

I figure I can use a thumb drive type SD card reader then USB female to micro USB male to the phone.

Is there an app that allows to view that setup?

There are a couple of options that work with the Nexus 7, so i assume they should work with the One X. (Somebody correct me if i am wrong).
If you are rooted you could try Stickmount. This allows read & write to the external card.

If you aren't rooted there is Nexus USB Importer. This only allows read access, but you can transfer the files to the internal memory.

I use Stickmount on my Nexus 7 and it works perfectly.

Thanks guys, sorry for the late reply (I wasn't subscribed to my own thread).

I'm not rooted. If the damn phone had a micro SD card, I'd be set (micro SD and SD adapter in the cam). Grrrrr

I'll try the Nexus.

Right now I'm usuing this card reader

I like the Nexus app as I don't need an external power source and hub.

Otherwise I'll try your solution Harry.

If all else fails, I'll get my wife the tablet she's been wanting and read the micro SD card with that.

Damn, Nexus won't let me load (not compatible with my phone) and the USB host Kernel requires an unlocked bootloader. Grrr, now I see why everyone roots. I'm not ready to go there yet. Seems like a simple thing. I'm surprised there aren't more out there that want this capability. I've serached around and the question dosen't even seem to be asked that often.

I dont know why the HTC One X didnt have OTG to begin with... Getting that with Jelly Bean could be rather amazing!
