Accessing files from a file server

Accessing files from a file server

I have a new android tablet (coby kyros MID1125 running android 2.3 if it matters) and I want to use it to access some documents from my file server, the pre-installed file browser can view files on the network (if I manually enter the ip address) but has to copy them to the tablet and display them read only.

Are there apps available that will auto detect network locations and permit me to view and edit files across the network. The file types I most often would use in this way are PDF, XLS and AVI. The xls files I actually want to edit and save changes (will need to find an app for that too) the others will just take up too much space on the tablet

Comes close to working, detects network servers but only displays the ip addresses, not the computer names and still has to copy the entire move or pdf file before playing it.

I have had good success accessing Samba shares with AndSMB, but this is only feasible if your rom includes cifs support. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this worked on my LG Optimus Slider running Gingerbread.
