Help Accessing SD Memory Card

jsm1963

Lurker
I'm trying to access the the SD memory card I installed on my new Optimus Elite from my computer. It turns out the memory I accessed from my computer is the phone's internal "virtual" SD card.

You cant move apps to the sd card. You get a little under 2gb total for all your apps which is pretty stupid coming from the optimus V which I put all my apps on my SD. My 16gb sd card is kind of pointless now wish I never bought it....who puts 16gb of music, videos, and pictures on a phone. Virgin screwed up hopefully we get a rom for this phone very soon.

get ready for a let down, that is the new trend in phone, they are setting them up like tablets.

tablets use the internal SD stuff, and then some ditch the external port all together.

which will be fine with me but they really need to step up the storage to 10-20 gigs just for apps.

Until there is any ROMs created, and I still have room on the phone memory, I see no need to root my phone..... So I have not tried the following on my phone......

If you are rooted you may be able to use a few different apps to move some data over to an external SD card.
On my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 that's rooted, I'm able to use Link2SD, and GL to SD. I have used GL to SD to move other data besides just Gameloft games. Not everything works using it, so you would have to experiment to see what does and does not work.
Again, I have not tried it on the Elite so either or both programs may not work.....

I can't even get my phone to recognise music and video on my external SD. At all. Only players that allow you to browse to folders will allow me to play back any of it, and I like just using Google Music for everything because when I'm on wifi I can just listen to whatever, and when I'm not I can listen from SD.

Except I can't. Because this phone refuses to find anything on _externalSD

HALP PLZ

edit: all it will find is stuff in the root of /mnt/sdcard/music
no further folders will be searched
nothing in /mnt/sdcard/_externalsd/music will show up
nothing in /mnt/sdcard/_externalsd/tunes will show up
subfolders don't matter.
it refuses to find anything but single mp3s in /mnt/sdcard/music
yeah really regretting putting my 16gb in this thing.

They need to rewrite nearly every program made to know there is a real external SD too now that phones are adpoting tablet configs. [FYI most programs are written with cell phones only in mind.]

The standard Music Player app on my Elite does recognize music stored on the microSD (/sdcard/_ExternalSD/music) I have inserted. It works fine for me.

If you're using Windows 7, when you plug your phone into your computer with the USB cable, you should see two new volumes appear. In order to access these volumes, you must select/enable "Mass storage" when prompted, instead of "Charge only." The first volume will be the internal sdcard memory. The second volume will be the /sdcard/_ExternalSD/ which will only be accessible if you have a microSD card installed in the back of your phone.

oh are you kidding me :(
I purchased a 16GB micro SD card yesterday for my new phone..lol
Oh well, I'll see how much video I can cram on it, maybe a movie or two for my son.

well that's nice for you, but it sure ain't doing it for me.
Using google music, just put a song onto my external SD card via dropbox went into music and it was there. Not sure why it isn't working for you. Did you try doing a force stop, clear cache/data and then starting it again?

is there any way to use the external sd card for storage on the optimus elite? it doesn't seem that way i don't know why they even put one on the phone
