Help Accidental Call Answers - Lock Issue?

I've had my Incredible for a week and love the phone. It is exactly what I hoped it would be and much more.

That being said, I have one issue that is driving me nuts. I hate belt clips/holsters and have always carried my phone in my pocket. Whenever I receive an incoming call on my incredible, the action of pulling it out of my pocket answers the call 99% of the time. I cannot screen any calls as a result...and on one occasion, while driving, I had a hard time getting the phone out of my pocket and, unbeknown to me, the caller could hear me grumbling about it, so the call was picked up while still in my pocket even.

I've tried orienting the phone differently in my pocket (upside down, right side up, screen out, screen in), but the result is always the same. I've searched and searched the forum and the internet, but cannot find a way of locking my phone so that a button needs to be pressed for call answers instead of the screen swipe. Am I the only one having this issue? Is there a workaround that I don't know about?

I haven't tried it on my incredible but when I used a lock pattern on the Eris it made me enter it before I could answer the call..Sometimes it was annoying because I would mess up the pattern and miss the calls..let me know if this is true for the incredible and if ithis helps.

The lock pattern does not have to be put in to answer the call on the Incredible. Even with it turned on you have to swipe down to accept or up to reject the call, so it wont solve your problem.

Same problem here. Thought it would have something to do with "Quiet ring on pickup" option but I was wrong. There has to be as easy solution. Anyone figure it out yet?

I also have the issue, except I am not answering. I am ignoring/sending to voicemail. Then it shows a missed call.

Happens about 10-20 times a day.

Beside this huge issue for me, the phone is in fact "Incredible"

Someone please fix this!

just posted another thread without seeing this one. I have the same problem and I really really dont like it. There are people who call me all day who I ignore, that now I have to talk to. this is unreal.. love the phone, but someone just make an app that has another step to confirm a call answer.

Call confirm settled this problem. Amazing that just 4 minutes after i posted I got notifcation in the market that call confirm now makes you confirm incoming calls and not just outgoing.

So, if you were having this problem, download call confirm.

This is the reason i got rid of my Eris, . . . . . ive been waiting to see if this has been a problem with the INC, . . . . . . . it really sucks to hear this.

I dont wanna go to AT&T for a real touch screen

I just got call confirm but it only works for outgoing calls for me

You guys... How is your phone being answered in the pocket! This is technically, not even possible, since the screen is Capacitive Touch. I just called myself, the ONLY way to "slide-answer" the phone is to use a finger-skin contact. The cloth from your pocket cannot slide-to-unlock(answer). The only way I can see you doing, this is if you put your hand into the pocket, and your hand touches the screen. But if the phone is kept in the pocket, it should not answer.

Do this: Take the a shirt, cloth... a pant-pocket. Now completely cover your finger/hand. Then take the finger that is covered, and try to slide-to-unlock. It is not possible.

It only works by skin contact, so unless you got a hole in your pocket or your pockets are made of mesh... It is not possible for a pocketed-phone to be answered accidentally. Unless you stick you hand in the pocket and touch the screen accidentally.

Umm....to get the phone out of your pocket you have to use your hand? :p

But seriously I can see how this might be an issue for many....I've only had it happen a few times...with both the Eris and now my Inc....now that I've had practice, if I grab it carefully it's fine. But I do like call confirm it's actually nice just wished it worked on incoming calls.

Grab it buy the edge?!
Also, when you keep the phone in your pocket, have the "screen-side" facing you (your thigh). So when you hand goes into your pocket, the first thing you touch is the back cover.

I haven't had this problem. I Remove the phone from my pocket without touching the screen. I grab the sides of the phone.

Yea the edge that works! I agree with the placement of the phone as I do this. The point however, is some people would like an option like Call Confirm that places another step in there so that calls aren't accidentally answered whether in your pocket or not. I don't think this is a complaint so to speak just a tweak :)

Let me know when they get one.

I have not once had an accidental answer and the only place I put my phone is my left pocket.

If you are just flat out wrapping your hand around the screen when you take it out - there won't be an app to fix it.
