Accidental launching of Google Search on 4.1.1

Recently upgraded my Galaxy Nexus to 4.1.1.

I noticed Google Search can now be launched with a slide up gesture from the menu bar on the bottom of the screen, this can causes accidental launching of Google Search when scrolling a list with one hand, and is annoying, because there seem to be no option to disable this feature.

I hope Google will enhance this feature by adding a disable option, and for those that like this launching method, let users chooses the app to launch, because in its current form, the feature can be annoying and give the impression that Google is trying to create a legitimate mean to collect users geolocation data via accidental launching of Google applications.

Edit:
SwipeLaunch Disabler

Above app kinds of fixed this problem, will prevent Google Now from getting launch by mistake.

Hate this. Constantly setting it off when playing the Airport Simulator game I have.

I've sorted it but only because I use the AOKP custom rom which allows you to customise what pops up. You can't get rid of it but at least you can make it point to something that lags less.

i remember on 4.1.1 that you could go into apps and disable Google search, This did get rid of the search bar on the home page but it also cancelled the 'Google now' feature your speaking of. you still got the vibrations from the gesture of the swipe, but nothing loaded. Just tried it on 4.1.2 and i can't disable it.

I currently have this disabled on 4.1.1

Sounds like another reason to keep tapping "install later" every time I unlock the phone.
Be brilliant if someone can come along and say it can be disabled on standard un rooted phones on 4.1.2, in case I weaken.

Happens with me on Google's own Chrome, when swiping through tabs in landscape - damn near impossible to swipe left without setting it off. Not the most well thought out gesture.

But then, what could they replace it with? I'm thinking pressing Home and then swiping left or right would work better, and it would be able to keep out of the main view too.

That is not the regular search. That is Google Now which is part of JB and includes the search bar. It will not happen as long as you do not go past the bottom of the display portion of the screen just like settings will not pop up if you swipe down but within the display section.

This may or may not help you. I don't want to test as I wish to keep Google Now enabled: Turn off Google Now - Nexus Help

My suggestion is hold home key for a second or two. My old Droid2 had the option to hold home key (don't quite remember what it did) and it never got hit unless I needed to use it. This stupid swipe is incredibly annoying. Especially when needing to swipe to bring up options in the browser.

Thanks for the tip, but disabling Google Now does not disable the swipe-up launch action.

I had an issue where I would be doing something with my phone in landscape and when I'd hit the back button a couple times to get back to the home screen it would launch google now even though I didn't swipe up. I fixed that by enabling rotation in the stock launcher, but that won't work for anyone who doesn't have an unlocked bootloader or root.
