Help accidentally wiped my system

Ah, the WiFi could be a problem for the update. The way you do the update is either click on the notification or go to Settings > About > Software Updates, then tell it yes it can download and apply the update. But you need WiFi for that.

If you go into Settings rather than the shortcuts on the notification slide can you turn WiFi on from there?

Yes, sorry, as you noted at the start of the thread you need a stock recovery to apply the official update. Saltire did post instructions for installing that earlier in the thread.

If you have only restored the later (3.32.708.4) TWRP backup, then the Wifi not working is because you have mis-matched the later software with older firmware. This tends to break stuff, most commonly Wifi. This is why I did say in the instructions post to check everything works ok before doing the last two steps, in case you have to repeat 2) and 4) with the older TWRP backup download. You will therefore need to re-flash TWRP recovery, and then repeat steps 2) and 4) with the 2.11.708.2 backup files.

@Hadron excellent thanks, that's a great tip re: using ADB to sideload the backups across if no access to a card reader. Presume this needs ADB sideload in TWRP running, correct?

It needs an ADB daemon running. I can't recall whether you need to enable the sideload thing or not - I usually expect a custom recovery to have a daemon running by default, but can't be bothered to put mine into recovery to test just now.

At least you just wiped a phone, seems like you should be able to recover some items. My wife about a year ago left her lap top on the table when she fell asleep. Our daughter came along started typing, clicking on this and that hit a few random keys and presto she completed the ultimate factory reset, she wiped it completely including every pre installed program.
She and co workers tried for weeks using all kinds of soft ware recovery items, they even removed the hard drive unit and hooked it up to a corporate server to see if they could retire it, Nada. To get it up and running we would have to purchase and install new software, luckily we had a spare lap top and my wife primarily uses her tablet and phones

Ok I am not an expert on this whole thread (topic)..just an enthusiastic avid reader which I am having the best time ever learning from this particular one (60 answers so far..damn!!!..lol)..but in regards to your wifi issue..my experience I recommend you to do at least two more consecutively master rests one after the other..he might be right and could be due to the room you are into currently..but then again it also could be one of the collaterals of the loop you had going on which maybe affected the radio of your phone..try those two matters and it might work..that happened to me in the past but the affected one was the Bluetooth also grayedout..so if that doesn't work..you can open up your phone..physically unplug the radio and plug it back on..put your phone back together and hopefully that does the trick!
