Help Ace and Android - Questions !! [noob]

Hello, i must start by saying this. I am a total noob in terms of smartphones and android software.

And i have some questions. I had a samsung galaxy mini, that one broke and now i have from the warranty a samsung galaxy ace.

Questions

1.What is the latest version of Android for smartphones ?

2. My phone says that i have android 2.3.5. I can update to another Android software, maybe 3.0 ? Or later ?

3.This second smartphone of mine has a 800mhz cpu, i know it's not big(comparing to 600mhz on galaxy mini) but the menu seems to have some lag, can i reduce that lag, and have a smooth menu on my phone ?


If some experienced user can answer this question, with some simple answers, it will be awesome !

1. 4.0.3, but the latest update for Galaxy Ace is 2.3.6

2. As I was saying, you can only update up to 2.3.6.

3. Yes, you can use Lunchers or you can root your phone and install a custom rom.
 
A tutorial, possible video, for making the phone run smooth ?

Or some other opinions for making the phone to run more smooth ?

And just for curiosity, for what phone is 4.0.3 android available ? :)

And the last one, how to update to 2.3.6 ? Is there a "official way" I don't want to root my phone or similar "hacking".

And 2.3.6 from 2.3.5 has some major differences ? Where i can see a changelog ?
 
well you can install apps on the sd card in order to have more free internal memory. this is a tutorial to do so without root

if you want to update via the official source (kies) you have to wait until this update "arrives" in your country. i assume you are from romania, so if my assumption is correct, you can't update via Kies to 2.3.6 because this update is not available in romania.

4.0.3 is only available for the samsung galaxy nexus. the samsung galaxy ace won't get this update.

Have a look at go launcher in the market. You install it like an app and it will make your menu smoother.

To update to 2.3.6 - plug your phone into Kies. If there is an update available for your region or carrier it will prompt you to install it.

4.x.x (ICE CREAM SANDWICH) is now available for a few of phones. Not just the nexus as of now. However - it will not come officially to the ACE. There will be an unnofficial cyanagenmod 9 (which is based on 4.0.3) which should be ready soon (a few things are being fixed).

Hi Praky & PJ, I've never tried ADW or GO Launchers, can you offer your experience & advice please?? I'm on stock Froyo 2.2.1 (yes, I know..), so would it improve anything for me? What are the pro's & con's? Which one is best? Thanks as usual :) Graham.
 
Go launcher is by far the best but does use up a lot of memory. It is very smooth and the most customisable. ADW (free) is a bit basic and the transitions are rubbish. ADW ex (paid) is better - Im using it now on CM 7.2.

Basically - try them and see which one you like. Make sure you install home manager so you can switch back to TW launcher easily if you need to.
