Help Ace S5830 Connection to Windows Vista

I'm a first time user of Android and I could really do with your help. I got my new phone yesterday, Galaxy Ace S5830, as in the title and I must admit I'm enjoying it right now with the freedom of applications.

However when it comes to media and downloads, I'm stumped as to how to transfer files to my Ace when there is no driver/software disc or information in the set up guides given. I have searched online and even asked a friend or two for help but all I can find is Samsung Kies or the USB Mass Storage device advice.

Now my first problem is Samsung Kies, not that I haven't tried it, it failed and I uninstalled swiftly but rather that due to my shoddy internet connection (Virgin Media), I fail to download anything unless it's a Word/Adobe document or RealPlayer videos. I would download it promptly and see where it went from there if I could.

Then I've read about the USB Mass Storage which I would find easier than using a software as I used that before on my old Tocco. However my problem here is that I have debugged the USB, I've plugged in the phone to the laptop but all that's said is 'USB connected' on the phone and a similar sentence on the laptop with nothing else happening.

This is probably the best I can explain the situation, if there is one.

I'm not in a rush to find out but it would be useful to find out what to do sooner or later. Cheers in advance!

U need to install drivers for galaxy ace, you can either install kies(drivers are included in it) or you can separately download samsung usb drivers for ace from the net.

I don't use kies anymore, its no good. I googled for drivers and installed them. Works like a charm.
