Help Ace with Android 2.3.6 messaging shows characters remaining, how can I remove?

When I used the messaging app on android 2.3.6 above the send button is the amount of characters I have left then /1. It only came when I updated it how can I get rid of it because it's really annoying?

Check the messaging app's settings, i am using CM rom and i don't remember if stock has that option, but in CM we have the option to turn on/off this feature. It displays the remaining character space for that message.

Is there any other way without installing the mod just for that?

If its really too much annoying and there's no option in the settings to take care of that, then you should use another app for messaging, like gosms or handcent or something like those. Look up in the market, there are loads of messaging apps with different features.
