acer vs hp vs dell vs PB vs ALIENWARE vs levono

which is the better manufacterer ?

As far as im concerned thay are all the same, the hardware and software are identical....so theres no diference....so it all comes down to battery life, build quality strength and cooling of thier laptops....well.....which manufacterar is the best of these areas ? And any other thoughts you may have on this topic ?
 
My 2 cents based on my professional experience:

Acer, ok but consumer market only. Enterprise stuff is always better.

HP, their enterprise stuff is ok just haven't found them to be as reliable or durable as Dell on a bulk basis.

Dell, good enterprise stuff, great support if you get gold support, beats HP support.

PB, don't know what this is.

Alienware, over priced. Maybe best for a gamer but for someone who wants an all round, powerful work horse, dell is much more reasonably priced (I am aware as anonymous pointed out in another thread, they are owned by dell)

Lenovo, used to make IBM kit. Nothing bad to say except I wouldn't want to base an enterprise pc environment on Lenovo

So my answer is dell.

I didn't know PB meant Packard bell, no. Packard Bell should never be in such a list like this. Have they made anything decent since Windows 95 was released? Their hayday was so long ago that I don't even think of them when I think of PC manufacturers.
 
I have a HP dm1 and my wife has an Acer AO722, both 11.6" laptops. The HP build quality is much better, there is no question about it. When the Acer was new a few months ago it's cost was about $400 and I just bought the HP last week which is $480 (brand new model). Given that, the HP is worth it for the build quality alone.
 
Im an Alienware bod im afraid but I think because Im fairly lazy when it comes to building systems. Just got the new Aurora R4 for

what do you mean ?

PB make i7 just like everyone else and thire laptops are very well priced, you do know they are owned by acer right. As for build quality wize.....exellent.
 
HP may have the better quality but acer have the better cooling.

Oh and forgot to mention gigabyte and asus

LG on the other hand in my opinion have the best cd drive and aditional software instaled.

my mom has an aspire and it took a very very hard fall.....expected the thing to be smashed to pieces because it fell on the leg of an office chair so the force is more concentrated.....but it survived with a small dent and still works like new. Build quality is great but in my opinion durability is final.

The fall was about 1 meter, table hight.

Guess it depends on what modle you compare.
 
Personally, I've found Dell to be nice. I've heard great things from several professors about lenovo, so I'm tempted to try them out in the future...

And I have a problem with HP all around (stemming from printers - go figure ;))... though, I haven't used anything recent from them.

Also, I love Asus customer support (though, they weren't on this list, I would say they are better (IMO) than HP), so I'll add them here. ;)

I am comparing the 2 models I mention in my post and have in front of me. Also from past experience, HP build quality is better than Acer. As far as cooling, depends of the CPU/fan combo the manufacturer uses and that is where build quality also comes into play, again; eg: cpu placement, vent size/placement, etc.
 
I have a $3000 Thinkpad and use to have a $4000 Dell mobile workstation. Don't think they're all the same they're not. For example. The higher spec Thinkpad W520 has a real quad core i7 like my macbook pro and not some dual core i7 w/ 4 virtual HT cores.

See Intel® Core? i7-2860QM Processor (8M Cache, 2.50 GHz)))

Not all 2.5 ghz cpus are the same. Same for graphics card.

Dell M6600 and the Thinkpad W520 come with workstation class 2GB video nividia Optimus video cards.

You spend another $400 just to get proper color calibration (or 90% color gamut) on-top of the cost of the LCD.

A real good PC laptop can be just as pricey or more expensive than comparable Macbook pros.


The Thinkpad W520 is the only PC laptop I would recommend. Especially when they have coupons. They can be had $1000 off retail.

I think you can have 3 SSDs install. m-sata, and 2 SSDs in RAID config and a 1080p 15" screen.
 
acer has always been about affordable budget system. I wouldn't rate acer anywhere near to ASUS for example. Many people make this mistake.

I only have a DVD drive because it didnt cost anymore to install it :) Bluray is not needed imo. All my games are downloaded and Blu-ray discs are still stupid money and to be perfectly honest I dont see Blu-ray being used for videogames any time soon. Unless your pc is the hub of your Media life, id pass on it. :)

I mean I haven't even thought of them as a PC manufacturer in 17 years. They're such an amazingly brilliant innovator that I had completely forgotten they do or have ever existed.

Does that make my point clear enough?!

I've never owned a Blu-ray and the last DVD disc I burned was ...2+ years ago? SD cards and a couple of external drives are my backup / restore source. :cool:
 
I mentioned above that I just purchased a HP dm1 (w/the new E-450) it was a really nice size and spec'd great. Well, the E-450 is a bit of a laggy CPU (what do you expect from a dual 1.65GHz). It also ran really hot, after a couple of days it only took about 1 hour for it to feel dangerously hot. Fan was working OT a lot.

I took it back today and fell on some good luck. There was a locally made laptop with a 14" LED, 1st gen i5 480 (dual 2.5GHz), 4GB RAM with empty slot, 500GB HDD, etc. Build quality looks great and I'll add another 4GB later today. It went for $399 (the dm1 was $479) so it was a no brainer.
 
High end HP and Alienware would be at the top of my list. HP's printer business continues to do a major nose dive (in my opinion) but they still offer excellent options for printers. And in my surprise opinion, I've been growing more and more dis-enfranchised with Dell in recent years. Their business class is good but not great, they are expanding into too many product lines (think: mini HP), and their corporate pricing is not as competitive as it used to be. I understand why a company like Dell needs to manufacture and sell servers, but why blade servers? And network switches? And SAN's?

Acer, Gateway (their other subsidiary), and Lenovo are all consumer grade anymore... at least in my opinion.

Packard Bell? Oy... now that's a blast from the past!
 
i will prefer hp because its the most powerful and high performance is provided by HP laptops
The laptops heat more than others but that never makes an issue.

The "HP" in HP laptops stands for Heat Problems. The E-450 in the HP I just returned was almost burning hot, the E-350 in a friends Lenovo is warm so HP's design is the failure. I have an i5 now in a locally made laptop which is insanely cool.

Ha ha. They're all using standard RAM and CPUs so how one can be more powerful seems a bit odd
