Root Activate Phone Prior to Rooting/ROM'n?

Hey all....Evo V 4G newb here, coming over from the craptastic Triumph. Quick question....do we have to activate the phone prior to rooting/rom'n it? We had to do it with the Triumph, but wasn't sure if that applied to this phone as well. Right now, I'm still using a Triumph running CM7 and am waiting till my case and screen protector come in for the Evo before I swap my account over to it.

I wanted to try and get it ROM'd and all my apps running on it in the meantime, but wasn't sure if I had to activate it with VM first.

I would activate it first because getting the dang thing to activate is a complete pain! Hours with the people in India until I got transferred to someone in America that actually solved my problem.

If you activate before you flash/ root its better because you have your phone number and everything, i always check after i flash something if i still have service.

I was able to activate mine trouble free (bought from RS 6/8) but I activated mine online before I turned it on the first time so I wouldnt get issues. I then powered it on and then let the hands free activation thing do its thing and all was well

Definitely activate first. Do it online with both phones turned off. If not, you'll be on the phone with a person who barely speaks English for at least an hour. The phone is awesome, though, and worth the wait.

Activated this morning and once I verified that I could make calls and had 3g data, I slapped JMZ Shooter ROM.....I'm so diggin this phone!A GPS that works....who woulda thought LOL
