Activating a phone on a new 2-year contract

When buying a new phone at the subsidized price and agreeing to a new 2-year contract do you have to activate that phone on that line or can you use the new phone on another line immediately by putting in that lines phones sim card? thx

I bought my latest phone on my son's upgrade and put my sim card in as soon as it was home. No problem.

Verizon told me that all employees at Verizon corporate stores (not authorized retailers) that they are not allowed to open NEW lines just to switch the phone over to a line with unlimited data. They said they have been threatened of being fired if they did that. If it's not an existing line due for an upgrade, you will probably need to go to Costco or another authorized retailer. Costco said they can and currently do that. Good luck!

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. This is not a new line it's an existing line. In my case I used an existing line and my plan is to not activate the phone on that line and to activate it on a different existing line.

When the title reads "new 2 year contract", I thought that meant a " new LINE". My mistake. It should work fine.
