My father is going to ship me his old Samsung galaxy S phone and i had one question. He did not pay his bill and switched to another network and T-mobile disconnected the service on the phone.

Will i be able to pop my current sim into the phone and use it?

As far as I know you should have no problem. I bought my first T-Mobile phone from a fellow who had not paid his bill. I did a factory reset to get rid of his personal stuff, popped in my SIM card, and it worked fine. I had to sign up for Google and do some other configurations, but the phone worked immediately without having to contact T-Mobile.
