Root Activation and Rooting/Using ROMs

I have a new to me Dinc2 and I will be activating it with PagePlus. I would also like to root the phone and use custom ROMs. Do I need to activate with pageplus before rooting, after rooting, or does it not matter? Thanks!

I would make sure the phone actually works on your carrier before doing anything else.

Thanks for the advice. I activated the phone yesterday and then rooted it last night.
