Help Activation question....

Hey guys, i will be buying this phone from my local Radio Shack and just want to know what my best option for activation will be.(1) Allow Radio Shack to activate my phone. (2) Do the activation online myself, or (3) call VM and allow them to do it.

Also,i will be porting over from Verizon and wonder would this make a difference as to which option i should choose. I just want to ENSURE proper provisioning for my service and device. I DO understand that the phone should not be turned on UNTIL the activation is complete.

Also, does it matter if my old Verizon phone has messages in it or does that only matter with porting from VM phones?

Sorry in advance if there's a thread on this already. Thanks in advance

If you are porting, do not allow RS to do the activation and let them know up front that you will be activating the phone or they will start before you realize what they are doing. You need to call Virgin and get the port COMPLETED and your account set up and ONLY THEN turn on the phone and activate. If you allow RS to try and activate, you are probably going to have the activation problem. Save yourself a headache.

So I'm getting this phone in about an hour, and I want to make sure I've got EVERY step covered.

-Don't turn it on until I've switched my phones (doing it online)
-Should I put the battery in the phone while I'm switching my phone or does it not matter?
-Should the phone be connected to data or WIFI while it autoactivates?
-I have all of my voicemails deleted off of my Wildfire
-Charge my phone up to 100% and let the battery wear all the way down until it shuts off for the first time so it establishes the battery life

Anything else that I'm missing? I want this process to be as painless as possible. I'm crossing my fingers that I won't let a lemon EVO.
I'm freaking out that something will go wrong...what do I do if the autoactivation fails?

From my experience:

When I first ported from T-Mobile while activating my Optimus V, I called VM for assistance. That happened on a Sunday. The port was painless for me. Phone call with VM rep took about 10 minutes. Number ported in about 30 minutes. Adding top-up took another 15 minutes before phone was usable. Can't vouch if Verizon will screw up the porting.

As for Evo V 4G... you can certainly turn on the phone. When the phone is turned on, it will try to activate. If you aren't ready to activate, just hit cancel. I played the phone for 4 hours before I activate it. The phone will always try to activate itself (if it's not activated) when you power off/on.

You should be ok. If it fails, you can try a factory reset or the ##CLEAR# Reset. It will work eventually. The phone will start activating as soon as you turn it on so unless you cancel it, you won't have the option to choose WIFI. It will connect on 3G.
