Root Activation

I recently purchased a nexus s for my girl, but its already rooted. Can I activate if its rooted as long as its the stock rom (4.1.2)?

Also, what is the consensus on recoveries? On the gnex, its twrp. I was reading up on cannibal as well.

I've had issues activating phones while they are in a custom ROM state. The key here is to factory reset right before you're going to try to activate the phone. Android has an activation setup (at least it USED TO on VZW) that worked slick when you first powered up a brand new factory reset phone.
