What's the best ad blocker for a android phone.I downloaded ad block plus but it seems to not be working. Sometimes I get a ad that says track.dovelane and days I have a virus. Thanks in advance
 
Do devs/publishers lose revenue if an ad is blocked?

Edit: I've done some research and found that the way adaway does it, the app wouldn't get any ad credit as it is not loaded. That is why its no longer on playstore. However, it does it a way that is also achievable by manually editing the system hosts file. It requires root access.

Have to weigh up either support the app that uses ads that usually arnt so bad or intrusive, or have root and bother with it. Honestly, I've in the past tried some apps that use ads excessively and/or irresponsibly and at least adaway should keep them at bay. I've now installed adaway to test and appreciate it, though I wouldn't go to the hassle of rooting my phone just to have adaway.
 
Adblock is also evolving to allow whitelisting of some ads.

This was mostly computer and doesn't mention mobile version.

I don't mind some ads, but the ads need to be vetted, and if agencies can't understand that, they have a problem. I don't want to see scam or dicey ads on the phone.

Ads within reason IMO, because devs have to eat like the rest of us. :) I'll accept banner ads or anything that doesn't interfere with the app or game. But an increasing trend seems to be full screen splash ads that stop whatever the app or game is doing every minute, and you have to actually dismiss the ad to continue. Those are completely unacceptable to me and frequently make the app or game unusable, and in fact I will give them a one star rating on Google Play for it as well with the appropriate comment, and then delete whatever it was. Unless there's a paid version available, very often there isn't however. Some devs becoming greedy at the cost of usability I think.

I've seen some games have an update, where originally it was just unobtrusive banner ads, and then the update stuck the obnoxious repeating every minute full screen ones in, and that was the only change in the update.

That used to be a reasonable game before it had an update. Did email the devs about it, but no reply, and no paid, ad-free version available.
 
I'm looking for a way to block ads on web pages. I read a lot of news and I'm tired of wasting time waiting for the ads to load. I tried ad blocker pro, but it made it impossible to reach the web pages. My browser just freezes.

I tried Firefox, but it crashes all the time (including the first time I wrote this post.)

I have zero confidence that I could root my devices. I use a Galaxy Note 3 and a Galaxy Tab S. I don't have a problem with ads in apps; I either put up with the ads, or buy the ad-free version.

Any help would be much appreciated.
 
If they are online pop ups, block them with the browser. In app, ???

How do ads work? The developer signs with an agency to supply ads - does he give them the code to insert ads in the app or does he do it himself?

If the ad agency is doing it, the dev might not have any say about size unless he wants to shop for a new ad supplier. His hands are tied.

If the agency is sleazy, you will get sleazy ads.

Had Adfree on mine for ages and it's perfectly safe.

PS: I NEVER even click on online ads, let alone actually buy stuff from them, so I've no guilt about using something like Adfree. If I'm using an app then I'm using an app. If I want to buy something then I'll go shopping for it (online or in town) but I keep the two separate.

I did a lot of research on AdFree before installing it but I've only had it installed for about a month. I haven't had any issues but it's nice to hear from someone with more experience with it.

I install a few different ROMs on my old DHD and it is really surprising how many ads pop up when I first hit the interweb until I realise I haven't downloaded the latest hosts file ...
