Ad blocking in 4.2

Now that Google has effectively killed ad-block plus in 4.2, how does anyone block ads now?

There is still an option to install ad-block but changing proxy settings but it is giving hell of a trouble. It blocks other apps, like google play, whatsapp image downloading from connecting to the internet.

has anyone figured a way around?

If you're open to rooting, you can use root based apps that modify hostfiles. I use AdFree Android and it gets the job done.

Although my phone is not a flagship phone anymore, I paid $600 in cash, so I don't have heart to root my phone. Plus, I am not an expert to fix if anything goes wrong.

If anybody is willing to do it for some cash, I will happily pay.

exactly how did google effectively block it in 4.2?

i recall the play store taking it off, but it is still available for side loading. no root required, though recommended. i don't think you need to change proxy if running 3.1 or higher????

I followed the direction as they stated but it started giving me a lot of troubles, like whatsapp images stopped loading. Chrome would not connect to the internet etc. etc. So I finally removed it.

Hi Delta,
Get rooted and find an app called AdFree. (like JHawk said)
Have a nice day.
Honestly, I would love to but first of all, I am not a geek so if something goes awry, I don't know how to fix and second, I have paid $600 hard cash for it. If it is bricked, DW will kill me for sure (and make me use the dumbphone).

Sorry for your trouble, but honestly, I've had no issues at all. My wife hasn't had a problem on her phone either (and she seems capable of breaking anything ). Have you tried emailing the app developer to see if they could offer assistance?
