Root Adb shell not working?

im using adb to try to get a file off my moment (not rooted), but it keeps telling me no devices found, & yes the phones settings are on usb debugging mode.
what am I doing wrong?

I would assume they are, b/c I use my computer to put files on my sd card via usb cable, mount/unmount

That only means you have the drivers for usb mount installed. One way to check to see if you have the proper drivers is to enable usb debugging, and then try to usb mount. If it doesn't work, you don't have the proper drivers.

so if im in usb debugging mode, & the phone wont let me mount, then i dont have the right drivers?

were do i get the drivers?
