ADB USB drivers outside HTC Sync - help please

nextenso

Lurker
Hi, incase I worded my earlier post wrongly, I am urgently trying to find a way to install HTC ADB USB drivers to my Win XP 64bit o/s PC without using the installer HTC uses to load HTC Sync.

That installer for the HTC software uses Windows Media 11 Installer which is NOT XP 64bit compatible. There must be a way to load the USB drivers only. Once they are loaded, I can then install a 3rd party sync tool such as PhoneExplorer.

I can't believe that its all locked to a single installer. Thee must be a way to load the USB drivers only. There is always more than 1 way to do things - if I can find it. :(

Hoping for a reply, Regards Jonathan

When rooting my Desire, I had trouble getting the drivers to Work. I ended up installing PDA Net software to my PC. Those drivers worked well.

Note: I didn't actually use the software. I just installed it to get the drivers.

Loading the drivers is easy enough - just connect the handset to the PC and when the "Add New Hardware" dialogue appears point it to the location of the driver files. The problem is getting hold of those files - HTC have never provided them in any form other than the HTC Sync installer. I've got 32-bit XP drivers available here, along with 64-bit Win7 ones, if they are of any help?

Hi Slug !! many thanks, and to the other 2 replies. I downloaded your zip file, and will try them out when some urgent client work is done later today. will advise back on results.

I have doubts on whether Win7 64bit will work for XP 64bit. If anyone else has other suggestions, please let me know. Is it poss to parse the HTC sync exe file to extract the drivers. I have tried one programme I use to extract components from Outlook compiled files but no luck with that one.

Rgds and thanks for help, Jonathan
