Help Add different ringtone for different contacts?

I thought I could set custom ringtones for different contacts but I can't find anywhere to do it. Can this be done? I would like to assign a couple of people different ringtones when they call so I know a call is coming from them.

I use Ringdroid from the market. It's free, and works great to create either voice call or notification ringtones.

Nope. Thanks for the link. It appears the answer is NO if you use google contacts which I do. Bummer.

All my contacts are gmail, and some have custom tones.

Don't know if this matters, but in your contacts display options you need to view the contacts saved to phone to have ringtone options...

I agree with the post about ringdroid. I used it to set up ringtones for individual contacts and I am use google for contacts.

I use Google for contacts, and with Ringdroid, you can set individual ringtones, and/or the default ringtone. It will also create notification ringtones, which you can set from Settings. It works well. The only issue I have encountered is, I have to reset them all after flashing ROMs. Not a biggie, just a small nuisance.

Does ringdroid work for contact groups in addition to individual contacts? Usually, I don't have time to assign ringtones to multiple people. Also, I usually set ringtones to respond to the type of activity I should be prepared for (e.g. numbers from work get a "hectic" ringtone, numbers from friends get a "party" ringtone, etc.).

A workaround is to create a new contact on the phone (not gmail) for those that you want a separate ringtone. Doesn't need any info, just the contact name and assign the ringtone. Then edit the newly created contact to link it to the gmail contact. Works great for me.
