Adding a new contact

Ok this may seem like a dumb , quesiton and believe me I searched around for the answer. But when you get a text message from a new number and you long click it, click add to contacts it just brings your current contact list no option for adding a new contact. Is there a way to add a new contact from a text message??

I use Handcent SMS

Beg for Google Voice. It's better at least in that regard where you can just add contacts fairly easy (still needs improvements though).

Please I want People Contact SMS Tab to pull from Google Voice in 2.1~

I just sent a test message to my phone from another mobile who's number isnt stored and you are correct. You can long click on the number and select Add to Contacts but it only brings up a list to select a contact...as if you were updating an existing contact. I dont see where you can create new...interesting.

Hmm I don't use Handcent or w/e, so I can't help

In GV, it brings you to new contact highlighting the name field with the number already typed in for you.

The default messager client is even better at handling it I've found as it gives you an option to merge it or make a new contact.

One workaround is to call the number, hang up before it starts ringing, then add it from that recent call entry. It's an extra step but still much better than doing a manual copy and paste.

Yep this is what I do, guess I'll have to deal with it. I fiqured I was missing something glad it's not me haha

I've been wondering what is the best way to send a contact's single phone number to someone else, without sending a vCard??

AFAIK, there is no "copy" function while in your contacts list :(

Any insight?

When you long press the number, add to contacts, it will bring up your current list of contacts...but right at the top of that list is an option to add to contacts. I have easily overlooked this many times. Just did this yesterday.
