Help Adding a Ringtone

I have a ringtone in a Media/Audio/Ringtones file on the sd card. For some reason it does not appear as an option in Sounds.
Do I have to rename the file?

Can you try to put the ringtones to /sdcard/ringtones folder, maybe it will help? Android is confusing, Google has moved the location for media files. You can also run Music and select ringtone from here, it should show all mediafiles on sdcard.

Yes managed to install it from Music, thanks for the tip. However, I couldn't install an alert tone from there, I'll try renaming the files.

Do you mean alert or alarm? In the second case has to be in alarms folder

ah yes, to clarify I meant an alert for a text.

No alert, no alarm, it's called notification
Can you try to put the tone to /media/sdcard/media/audio/notifications (in JB it's /media/sdcard/notifications) ?
