Adding contacts to new android

I've just got a wonderful new Android phone, it seems to do everything but clean out my cats' litter boxes. Although it transferred my contacts from my computer, I cannot see how to add new contacts. Whenever I touch CONTACTS, all I get is my list of contacts....PLEASE, how do I get to "add contacts" - - desperately, RhodaMuriel
AND THANKS!!

Type in the number first, you should see an "add contact" or "add to people" option.

Yep. If you're near your computer, though, the easiest thing to do is just to add new contacts to your Google contacts list on the computer ... since that will automatically be kept in sync with the phone.

Yes you can. First export contacts from your old phone as *.CSV (Comma Separated Values) file and save it somewhere on your PC. Than import that *.CSV file into Google contacts. Now sync your phone with that Google account.

Hit the menu key. Select New contact. Be aware of the contact type you're adding and make sure it's the type you want.

Assuming the OP wants the contact to be a Google contact. All my contacts, for example, are Exchange contacts.
