Adding gmail account with different domain name

Hey there I am hoping someone can help me out. The school district I teach in recently changed to google for our email client. I am trying to add the account to my phone thru the k9 mail application (would rather not use the gmail app). The problem I am running into is that our domain is @milton.k12.wi.us instead of @gmail.com. The problem is it sends me thru manual set up and I don't know what to enter as far as imap server, security type, port, etc. Would anyone be able to walk me thru the steps - I would really appreciate it. thanks in advance for your help.

It's REALLY easy with the Gmail app. You just put your login in and that's it. But if you want to use another app, that shouldn't be too hard.

Sign into your account from the webmail side. Then go to the settings in the top right corner. Go to the Forwarding and POP/ IMAP tab. Click the setting to enable IMAP. Then click the link at the bottom to see what settings to type in. It will probably say the same as it did for me with my Google apps account at my small business domain.

Incoming settings
IMAP server: imap.gmail.com
Port: 993
Security type: SSL (always)

Outgoing settings
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Security type: SSL (always)


For user name, put in the full email address, like zach.lastname@milton.k12.wi.us

That should do it for you. I do contract work for one local college that uses Google for their email. I don't have an email address for them. I do have an email address with another local college where I do some teaching (not a full professor). They use Microsoft Exchange 2003. Google is SO MUCH easier to deal with and set up on multiple devices.
 
Hi,

I have the same issue at my school. When I try to add my address as is (as in "zach.lastname@milton.k12.wi.us"), the gmail app changes the email address to zach.lastname%milton.k12.wi.us@gmail.com.

DO you guys know of any solution?

Thanks for the help. I got it to work until today when it suddenly quit working. I deleted the account and tried to re-install....and the message I kept getting was that my username/password was incorrect. However I can log in via the web so I'm not sure what the issue is. If you have any ideas or suggestions they would be greatly appreciated! thanks
