If you press Phone and then enter the code -

*#*#4636#*#* (4636 spells INFO)

you get additional info about your phone and battery, plus you can run a ping test

Hmm, I'm not going to change it but my Orange Hero with the latest Modaco Rom has WCDMA set as the preferred network....

I wonder why?

battery voltages and temperature, thats pretty cool, my battery is at 30.1 degrees celcius

3G is a type of CDMA known as WCDMA. CDMA just stands for Code Division Multiple Access. the W is Wideband I think. It's not the same as the CDMA used on the likes of Sprint in the US. It's a similar but incompatible technology.

GSM on the other hand uses TDMA - Time Division Multiple Access.
