Has Adobe discontinued Flash? If they have, how big a deal will it be? I know some things will definitely be affected. Is there an alternative, preferably reasonable?

Flash has been mostly replaced by HTML5 and WebGL.

What does this mean for something relying on it? How long has it been gone? Is it easy to convert to something else?

it means that you have to find a browser that supports flash. if it is an app then i do not think it will work any more. adobe flash player also soon be ending on jan 12th 2021....https://www.adobe.com/products/flas...=As previously announced in July,(“EOL Date”).

Flash was just discontinued this month, but Adobe announced it back on July 25, 2017:

Although Mint 19.1 (and probably Ubuntu as it came from an Ubuntu repo) updated Adobe Flash Player yesterday. I'm not sure why, unless it's a final version that just says 'Flash is now dead'
