Help Ads in the Notification Bar Menu

How do I stop these annoying ads from appearing in my notification menu?

There is an "Airpush" App that supposedly stops these ads, but user feedback says after installing the App they are getting more ads then ever.

Plus they want your IMEI, MEID, and ESN numbers to opt out manually, which I'm not about to give them, nor am I about to install their app on my phone.

IDK is posting links or URLS to other web sites is allowed here, but a Google search for "Airpush Opt Out" will bring up the URL

Thanks.

I use "Airpush Detector" and just immediately uninstall any app that causes airpush notifications. I have no respect for any developer who thinks he has the right to bombard me with airpush. There are always alternative apps available.

I really hope the link I found is safe.. I'm guessing that's what the OP is talking about. I went to About on my phone & put the IMEI in there.. it asks for that, not your mobile #. I guess I'll find out soon enough if that works or not! I could never see the full link on the pulldown, because it stopped at "opt.l" so I googled it & found this site: opt.leadbolt.com/ I really hope it works, because the app I downloaded is to play .mkv files on my phone, and it works! Just don't like the push ads..

IDK if I wasn't clear, but I would NOT download, install or give them any info as the feedback for their app was overwhelmingly negative and the feedback stated it resulted in even more spam.

I found two apps that seem safe: Airpush Detector (as mentioned in the post above) & Airblocker

Both of these apps found Malware apps on my phone and gave me the option to delete them, which I did.

It's only been about 30 minutes, but I haven't seen any more spam in my notification bar.

I would install those two apps and avoid the "Airpush Opt Out" app as it reportedly spams your phone/notification bar even more.

Update: Airpush Detector and Airblocker found the offending apps which I deleted and no more Spam in my Notification Bar. I highly recommend both of these apps to find any Malware - past, present and future.

Ahhh ok, thanks.. will look those up! I usually only get 1 notification at the top when I open the mkv player app to watch a movie.. other than that, none. I'll see if I get more now though. You were clear, I had just already found the link & 'opted out' before finding this thread! If I get another notification after opting out, then I'll download the apps you mentioned. (Haven't had anymore since opting out... yet!) Thanks!

Phishing and identity theft crooks usually stash your information in their database then attack later when you have forgotten about the contact. My identity theft incident in London, England via Verizon USA was pretty interesting. Bank of America never got their $3000 back and it caused me a LOT of grief.

Recently I fell for a pfishing scheme, also via Verizon, then changed all my passwords when a few minutes later I realized how I had been suckered into revealing several of my passwords.

I get 100 times more emails from the crooks pfishing on PayPal than I do from PayPal itself. Some emails from PayPal are probably legitimate but I ignore them all.

What, me paranoid?

Yep. PayPal rarely has a reason to email their customers.

The phishing emails usually have grammar, spelling, punctuation errors, etc.. and the URL that it directs you to looks legit but usually has an extension that gives it away as being fake.

I have an old hotmail account that I've had since 1997 and I get all kinds of scam emails on that account.

I have several email accounts and change the passwords to them every month and I use complicated passwords and keep them separate from my PC

A good anti-virus program and firewall also helps, as does a VPN

I have younger relatives and they share all kinds of personal info online of Facebook and other sites - they don't realize how dangerous it is to share their info and that they are not anonymous as they think they are.

I'm always having to fix their computers because they download all kinds of stupid stuff, their browser has all kinds of toolbars on it, their taskbar is filled with junk icons, and they end up with all kinds of viruses and Malware.

The newer scams involve text messages sent to you phone that puts Malware and/or a virus on your phone when the hyperlink in the text message is clicked.

I am running Avast Virus Protection on my LG Phone and it seems to work well.

If anyone knows of a better AV app for our LG Motion phones, please feel free to post it.

Another red flag is the lack of a way to contact them at the bottom of the webpage.

Anti virus apps on Android are close to useless, they can only check downloaded apk files against known virus signatures. Android apps run in a sandbox and aren't allowed to interact so you have no way of doing it at runtime. Staying away from sketchy downloads is a much better solution.

Thanks. I'll keep running the Avast AV program as a "just in case" and keep the two apps I downloaded, Airpush Detector and Airblocker to catch future downloads that put spam on my Notification bar as that seems like the best course of action right now.

Those two apps found the offending d/l's and I haven't had any spam on my toolbar since.

See http://androidforums.com/android-ap...d-into-exact-sort-crapware-supposed-stop.html.

Airblocker has just turned into an even worse version of the sort of crapware it is supposed to stop.

I'm running version 1.2.6.1 of Airblocker and haven't had any problems.
I'm also running version 3.1 of AirPush Detector and no problems either.

Keeping my fingers crossed...

you seem like you have been doing this sort of thing long enough to know better then to download or install suspect files or apps.
This is not your home pc, dont just think it wont matter what i do. You cant just plug in a Boot Master usb stick with windows on it and be all fresh and new in fifteen minutes.
Plus all your info. man i never use an anti anything on my phone unless its for ads. i never have any issue either with security.
alto i had once had my phone come up missing one day and i wish i had some kind of tracker software on it that day:mad:

Keep in mind there is one of the biggee Find 'Em apps that you can push to your phone via a text After The Fact (it goes missing). I think it may be Find my Droid but don't hold me to that part.

But yeah, it IS better if you have one preloaded and set-up for if you end up needing it.

Just noticed I'm getting these random ads too.. No clue where they're coming from either. I tried the detectors and I got nothing . it seems to be in chinese
