Advanced Task Killer...?

Does this app even do anything because its suppose to close apps that are running in the background however a few minutes later they are back on that list and that available memory at the top must be "gas" bacause when i press it twice (by accident) they display different numbers

btw running on a Wildfire 2.2 (if thats any use)
