Advanced Task Killer

I read in a diffrent Forum, that it you don't need to Download Advanced Task Killer for the Motorola Droid 2 Global. What do ya'll think?

The Android operating system knows how to handle apps. No task killer needed, in fact they do more harm than good. Lots of threads on the forum that will tell you this.

Yeah I saw that right after I posted. Came across Watchdog, does anyone use it? It is not a task killer like ATK it will catch apps that r running away? (I got that from an articel I read inbetween my last post and this one).

Yeah, Watchdog is pretty cool, but to be honest, I've never had any runaway apps because I keep my phone pretty tidy. As stated above, if you tweak a few settings here and there, it's easy to get over 24 hours of battery life. Just takes a little experimenting.

Not all apps restart. Global Unplug doesn't seem to ever restart (and is completely unnecessary). On my wife's phone GU hangs, so I'm going to see if Watchdog will give her an easier way to kill it, and also try to determine its CPU use when it does hang. Does anyone know what the minimum CPU threshold is for the paid version of Watchdog's blacklist? Can you go as low as 0.1?

Why do apps start at all when there is no reason for them to?

I honestly don't get it. Maybe the OS handles memory well, but sometimes I will open up the task manager just to see what is going on and several apps that don't auto update are just there, taking up RAM (even if the CPU is zero).

some are set to auto start. Some are used by other apps that you wouldn't think of. For example, the stock music player uses the stock gallery. If you add gallery to your auto kill list, your stock music player will stop playing music a short time after your screen locks. Some system processes make calls to other system processes that are seemingly unrelated, because they're utilizing code that's already there, instead of writing that code out again. it's optimal, when it's working the way it's intended to. Which is why it's better to let Android handle the decisions than a 3rd party app. if you absolutely must run a task killer, I can't recommend autokiller enough. Rather than adding specific applications to a kill list, you set the minimum free values for RAM, and it just steps up the stock Android process for killing off unnecessary processes. This is optimal because the Android OS is still making the major decisions, so it will make them in the most efficient way possible.
