Advice Anyone?

Hi guys! I'm new to this Android Experience. I'm planning to buy a good beginner Android phone and I'm torn between two choices... LG Optimus One or Sony Ericson Xperia X8.

Which is the best pick? Functionality and style wise? I'm more concerned of its resolution and how it doesn't lag when using differeng applications.

I've been a Sony Ericson user ever since so I have been rooting for Xperia, but checking online I've read some bad reviews about it. Now, I'm not sure which one to buy. Hope you could help me out. Thanks!:)

SE X8 looks good,thats it.Only Android 2.1 :o

LG Optimus One has more ROM/RAM,is faster ,supports Froyo(2.2),Gingerbread(2.3) is expected .Better battery and larger screen too.Same resolution.Supports Divx/Xvid.
Functionality wise Optimus is Way ahead of X8.
It doesn't look bad at all. Many custom mods too.:D
You cant possibly go wrong with Optimus One .:D
(P.S. I too was a SE user, but the budget Android phones of SE are pathetic)

i've heard that the biggest problem with optimus one is the dust under the screen, does it really affect the functionality of the phone or are people just being overly dramatic over it? LOL

thanks in advance! :)

I would look through the posts in the optimus section to see if that was, indeed a frequent issue. Whatever decision you make, welcome to android!

thank you for welcoming me! i've been reading a lot on this forum for quite some time now and i really appreciate any help you could give me. :)

Over Dramatic. It's just a rumor people say to increase the sales of other phones(Especially Samsung and Nokia ones ).I was told Optimus one's batteries die very quickly.

@meisaia,
I agree with the recommendation of Optimus One over X8.

In addition, you can also consider the newer models like Samsung Galaxy Ace, or wait for other to come in 1-2 months like HTC Wildfire S or SE Neo.

i see thank you so much! i'll also try to look on the other models you suggested.

just another question, how much memory is ideal for a beginner like me? because i really think that 32 GB would be such a waste if i couldn't fully use it. is 16GB or 8GB enough? i mean would that memory could i actually put lots of applications already and avoid lags? :)

There is the internal memory where the applications are, and there is the external memory (SD card) where user data is located.

The internal memory should be at least 150MB (really that is just the bear minimum). The external can be anything between 4GB to 32GB: depends on how much media you want to put on it.

Since Android v2.2 (which is not for SE X8) you can move about half of the applications from internal to external memory, so that you can install even more applications.

that's great news. and that's also one reason while i'm more inclined to using the optimus one and besides i heard they're going to release a gingerbread update soon. i'm excited for that... though i haven't thought how it could actually make a difference *yeah, im such a noob* but knowing that it's a later version means it's actually better right? :)

thank you for all your help. will update when i got the phone and hope you could still help me with my noob questions. >_<

Listen Peeps, I got myself an Android phone at version 2.2. Though a long-term Linux user I couldn't exactly describe myself as a *noob* as you do, but when it comes to phones I was, until recently, clueless.

I'd say whatever phone you get make sure it already runs at, or is easily upgradeable to Android 2.2. Most recent is best IMO, a bias I've developed after years of messing about with computers.

Other more clued-up posters will hopefully confirm this.

BTW I've just joined this forum after getting an HTC Desire. Not one of the phones you've mentioned, but if this device is available at a good price in your place the I have to say it comes highly recommended.

okay guys, i'm opting to buy the lg optimus 1 tomorrow. i heard that samsung galaxy ace is also available, practically at almost the same price, but the lower RAM kindda bothers me. any of you thinks i should still consider the ace? i would really appreciate any help. thanks!!

Ace should have a better camera, a bit faster processor and larger screen.
Optimus One has more RAM, better battery, a bit more memory.
At the end their performance should not be far from each other.

If you want a much better phone, check the price of Samsung Galaxy I9003 SL.

Ace has Gingerbread now :).Ram is a bit less but I dont think that will make much difference. The 800Mhz is quite tempting I must say.Since I think solo core V6 VFP have android 2.3 as it's limits,Ace would make a decent choice.
A coin will help.

I just got my Galaxy Ace two days ago, bought a 16GB sd card with it too. Currently, I'm enjoying it and is downloading any possible apps available in the market. LOL

Thank you for all your help.

BTW, Ace has Gingerbread? Really? How do I check if mine has?? :)
