Root Advice for turning this into strictly music player?

So I got myself an M8 finally, and now I want to turn this into a music player for my friend. She doesn't need internet or phone use from it, she has her own smartphone and laptop, doesn't do apps much. I'm wondering if I can simply uninstall most of what's not needed without breaking the phone? Of course I plan to make a full backup on her laptop before doing this.

The volt. I should have clarified. I did post in volt forums, but I understand the confusion after reading my post just now. My apologies.

My m8 is my new daily, the LG volt I want to turn into music device. I'm just not sure if taking out all google services and the like will make it non functional

Root it. Remove the SIM card. Freeze a lot of the built in apps.

I wouldn't use the stock system, it's more bulky., and if you are already rooted you just need to install custom recovery (which you should already have), and flash a rom. If you wanted it to be strictly a music player, and nothing else at all, you could install rockbox and set it as the launcher.

Remove the Sim, Install a ROM of some kind and use Airplane mode.
It should last forever as a music player.

BUT the most important thing you can do if you plan to make this a 'music player' is install viper4android. Quite simply the BEST absolute BEST audio improvement you can make to your android phone. I hated the sound that came out of my volt until I rooted and installed viper4android. Seriously. I swear by this app!!

When I say the sound that came out - I don't literally mean the phone's speakers either. I mean that I use it connected to my car stereo and absolutely love the sound now. Amazing.

Mp3's never sounded so good...and flac files - forgettaabbbooouuuttttit. (even better sounding of course)
